A school trip to Munich or Frankfurt by air will be less costly than you might think and will increase the number of days you can spend in the city

Whether you are taking students to Frankfurt (the business and financial centre of Germany) or Munich (famous for its culture, and particularly its architecture), the journey is going to be a lot swifter and a lot easier if you travel direct by air.

Of course, once you are in Frankfurt you will see everything from avant garde skyscrapers to museums and from theatres to the financial centre.

In Munich you will be again be noting the architecture, along with a cultural scene and museums that are at the very least equal to those of Berlin, not to mention the world class technology and science museums like the Deutsches Museum and BMW Museum.

Increasingly school trips to both cities are being taken by air for the two simple reasons that air trips are quicker than coach and ferry and, in many cases, are less expensive.

Thus the amount of time spent in the city of your choice increases dramatically for school parties going by air with the journey completed in a couple of hours.

In fact, given that it is normally possible to fly from an airport near your school to either of these German cities, such arrangements can add up to three more days spent in the desired destination rather than on the road and at sea.

Additionally you can choose the price range, and you can choose the hotel that is right for you – near the airport or within the city or region that is your final destination – rather than take the one selected by the tour operator.

Our reservation technology enables us to give you the most up-to-date travel options, all the time. We book and issue our own tickets enabling us to keep full control of your booking and ensure your journey meets your needs.

As we are ABTA and ATOL holders you can be assured that you and your students are fully protected should the airline fail (as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive for schools).

Because we have so many locations to and from which we can fly, the best way to explore the possibilities is to either call one of our specialist group reservation advisors on 020 8429 2900 or email us at groups@germantravelcentre.co.uk with the details of your requirements.

A Level OCR F292 and F297: 2013 Case Study Resource Packs for Business Studies

As you will know, the F292 and F297 pre-release case studies were made available earlier this month.

  • F292 focuses on a struggling steel manufacturer – Moffett Steel & Designworks Ltd. The booklet gets dramatic as the manager’s leadership style sees conflict with the staff!
  • F297 is all about bicycle retail and hire firm Cavendish Cycles Ltd, which has several important strategic decisions to make.

ZigZag Education, with new author team Simon and David Dyer, will be working hard to dispatch these resource packs to you by 8th April, giving you time to fully prepare your students for the exam.

Previous editions received excellent feedback from teachers:

  • “I thought it was great – clear, concise coverage of the case study absolutely straight to the point. No irrelevant information given. Gave the students a tremendous amount of confidence… Other revision packs are too long! Students switched off… Whole-heartedly endorse this revision pack. Invaluable resource for students.” – Mrs D Dixon, Lecturer, Customer (2012)
  • “The layout of the data material and the example mocks were welcomed by the students… It provided reassurance and supported work already completed… It got to the point… Use this as a key reference point.” — M Bushnell, Head of Business & Satisfied Customer (2011)

ZigZag resources are available as ‘copy masters’ or in editable format and come with a site licence, allowing you to pay once and copy as often as you need, or put on your server for multiple use.

What is the simplest way to accommodate more students in the canteen, while reducing behavioural problems through the lunch break?

Generally we tend to think that the canteen is a space about which not much can be done.

The concept that extra students could be fitted in, and that in doing this we would actually reduce behavioural problems, (as opposed to aggravating them) by having more students in one place could come as a surprise.

But this can indeed be the case.

Most school canteens were set up some years ago, and very few have had anyone look at the area from the point of view that the impact the layout of tables and chairs, and a designed ambience has on behaviour.

Similarly it is unusual to find a school in which thought has been given as to how the number of students who can be catered for at one go, can be increased.

Yet this can follow when the tables and chairs in a canteen are replaced – (and perhaps one should note that once the furniture in a school canteen reaches ten years of age, it is ready for replacement).

There are other bonuses that accrue when tables and chairs in the canteen are replaced. These include the provision of furniture that does not chip, items that are 100% stackable, moveable and light, cleaner modern surfaces; and the provision of a separate quiet area for staff and senior students, if required.

All of this means that, aside from the benefits of better behaviour, and a faster turnaround of students, when you come to show parents around the school, the canteen becomes one of the “must see” parts of the school.
