When you have a student who sometimes exhibits significant difficulties in social interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour, then supporting that student can be very hard indeed.

Students with Asperger’s Syndrome may also exhibit physical clumsiness and unusual uses of language too – everything in the syndrome, in fact, causes difficulty.

The cause of Asperger’s is not clear and there is no single treatment which is recognised as being suitable – and there is even disagreement in some quarters as to whether this is a difference, rather than a disability.

Which is why we have set up an on-line course (developed in association with British Institute of Learning Disabilities and Voyage Care) which explores ways of supporting students with Asperger’s.

On completion of the course you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support people with Asperger’s and to help them when they become frustrated, angry, depressed or are suffering from low self-esteem.

We also look at some of the common difficulties that people with Asperger’s Syndrome experience, for example, in terms of communication and memory, and consider techniques for helping individuals cope with these on a day-to-day basis.
